Well, what can I say…It's been one month and we are well on our way. In my French class I have students who can boldly ask me how am I doing and saying "Bonjour" as they walk into my classroom, and down the hallway to their other classes. They have even learned how to say the famous question, "What are those?". They are asking me question, "Mme Lewis, how do you say…". At the moment the most asked question is "How do you say,'may I go to the bathroom?', in French". They have learned to apologize, count to 69, give basic greetings, help me describe the weather, give the date, and are currently learning about things found in the classroom. They try to decipher what I say in the classroom, as we gravitate to a 90/10 split classroom. They are so excited when they are "on point" (as my students express). My students in French 1 are awesome….
When it comes to my French 2 students…they are a lively bunch who are so willing to learn and helpful to others in the classroom. We are covering things they learned last year so that we can really get into the heart of the language and its culture. We are learning the past tense and the present perfect (also known as passé composé et imparfait). I ask questions, they ask questions. It is truly a teacher-student led learning center. It is always enjoyable to see their expressions when I reply a lengthy sentence to them in French, and they are able to decipher what I am saying….responses like"Oh man! I got it, I know what she said" or "I got this!" with such confidence it awesome!!! We are a work of art in progress...
